DAY 6

All those moments...

Hello Future. I can’t believe we’ve reached the end of the Experience! The ship is slowing down from light speed, and we can see Earth again…

FINAL THOUGHTS / THE PURPOSE OF MUSIC

Before we dive into the last track, we’d like to share our last thoughts on why we make music, how it might affect the world, and what it is that we humans got going for us…

We have one more track to share with you, and I’m excited about this one. It’s the only track on the album that’s not written by me, but it’s a composition I love. This one’s from a movie the three of us deeply admire, maybe the greatest moment in film score history:

Track 11: Tears in Rain

The Monologue

I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

Rutger Hauer, Blade Runner

THE SCENE

This scene from Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner is a moment in film history that we deeply admire. Rutger Hauer delivers his incredible ‘Tears in Rain’ monologue, scored masterfully by Vangelis. Have a look and listen to the original:

THE SHEET MUSIC

The way we recorded our version this was by listening to the score on headphones, and playing along with the film, following the melody and improvising on it. This is my transcription that we used in the studio, that includes the words so we could time our notes more precisely. The notes that coincide with a word are underlined.

BEHIND THE MUSIC

In this video I will talk about how the score makes the monologue even more powerful:
